Get Along With Your In-Laws

Most people don�t realize that when you get married, you not only get married to your spouse but also his or her family as well. Sometimes it can be hard for a couple to have a close relationship with in-laws on either side of the family butting in and expressing their opinions on how to live your life. Here are a few tips to help you get along with your in-laws.

It is important that once you and your spouse are married that you are your own entity. While it can be very appreciative that your in-laws care about your well being and happiness, there has to be a line or boundary that they should not cross. If your in-laws do cross these boundaries, it is always a good idea to be polite and respectful and express to them that you and your spouse want to make important decisions without interference.

Most of the time your in-laws will respect your wishes, however if they are not respectful then you must continually make your feelings known. Many times ill will to in-laws happens because either party doesn�t know where they stand. Most in-laws will back off if they know that you don�t want interference. If your in-laws are aware of your feelings and still do not care or are disrespectful then the best course of action is to tell them to their face that they are acting disrespectful and demand that they stay out of your decisions.

While some situations are more difficult then others, if you are having serious problems with your in-laws and want to work out a comfortable situation then you may want to seek counseling.
